The Layout
The layout is the table design on which the players place their money. Although there are several different designs of layouts, they are essentially all the same. The player may put his money almost anywhere on the layout, in a square, on a line, on the intersection of two lines, or in a rectangle. There are sixteen different combinations of playing, and many of these sixteen can be played in several distinct ways.
On a US Roulette wheel there are thirty-eight different numbers on the layout, ordered from 1 to 36 and the 0 and 00. The last two are called zero and double zero. The Wheel
The roulette wheel contains thirty-eight pockets, 36 numbers and 0 and 00, (37 pockets on a European wheel). A small ball is whirled around the rim by a banker, and when it comes to rest in one of the pockets the banker usually announces the winning number and colour, and makes the pay-offs accordingly.
